Milk, Eggs and Bread - Lee Snow

As I write this the trees outside are dancing and the sky is grey. There's a tornado watch in Gray until about 4pm this afternoon so I'm sure the stores are empty of milk, bread, and eggs (if it's anything like back in North Alabama, I haven't been through a tornado watch in GA yet). It amazes us sometimes how many people will go out and buy milk and eggs preparing for the power to go out, not realizing that both products will spoil if it is out for any prolonged length of time. The bread, I can see that. I mean, you may need to eat sandwiches tonight for dinner if there's no power but you're also going to have to chug a gallon of milk because if it's still of tomorrow your cereal may be a little chunky if the milk gets too warm (I'm not 100% on that, I'm not an expert on the spoiling of milk so it may take much longer than that, milk lasts about a day and a half in my house).

Anyways, all of this weather talk got me thinking this morning. The weather isn't anything like that time when the disciples were on the boat in the Sea of Galilee and Jesus still told them not to worry (Mark 4:35-41). Now, I'm not saying Jesus is going to miraculously calm the weather today if there happens to be a faithful Christian in the path of a deadly tornado. But, what I am saying is I wish we would remember on days like today that our Lord is the one in control of the universe. After all, he made the thing!

We often think about the power of God when we are standing atop a mountain while hiking or on a boat at sunset but sometimes I think we fail to remember the awesome power of our God when the weather is temperamental.

Isn't it amazing that the Lord made the world to act in the way it does? He could have allowed the world to stay the way it was before the flood, with no rain and therefore no storms of this magnitude, but He didn't. Why is that? I'm not trying to speak for Him but I have a feeling it might just be so mankind, if he is thinking on spiritual things as he ought (Phi. 4:8), will remember the power of God and maybe even remember His view of sin which brought about the change from the way it was before the flood to the way it is today.

So, as you are huddled in your bathtub today with your dogs (if you have children I'd suggest having them in there instead of the dogs) remember that old song:

Till the passes over, till the thunder sounds no more, till the clouds roll forever from the sky, hold me fast let me stand in the hollow of thy hand keep me safe till the storm passes by.

And then keep in mind that the reason we have such storms is because mankind allowed himself stray from God to the point that God had to deal with the situation. After all, mankind is made up of 7 billion, or so, individuals like you and me that can stop it from getting that sin-filled again if we do our part.
