The Water & The Bread of Life - Travis Byars

Food and water are the single most important physical needs we have.  Without food and water every day we will quickly become malnourished. Malnourishment will quickly lead us to physical illness and even death after a sustained period without food and even more quickly without water.  Sadly, even in our present world there are places where famine ravages communities every day people die of hunger.

Physical malnourishment is a terrible thing, but unfortunately there is also another famine that isn’t accounted for that is ravaging the whole world. There is a spiritual famine taking place in our neighborhoods, in our cities, in our states, in our nation and throughout the world.  We must make feeding our spirits a daily thing.

Let us ask ourselves a few questions. If we only eat on Sunday and Wednesday is that an adequate physical diet? Of course the answer to that is no, if it is not a healthy physical diet then how much more so should we be concerned with our spiritual diet being more than twice a week.  If we are not feeding our spirits daily through prayer and personal at home study each day then we are starving ourselves spiritually. If we could look in the mirror and see our spiritual body what would it look like.  Let’s ask ourselves a few questions

How often do we approach our Father in prayer?
  • When we awake?
  • Before we go to sleep at night?
  • Before we eat a meal?
  • When something good happens in our life?
  • When something bad happens in our life?
  • When we are sad, or hurt?
  • When we are thankful for his blessings?

Do we thank God for these things on a daily basis? If we are not then it may be the case we are starving our spiritual body and robbing it of important necessities to sustaining a healthy spiritual life.

Another important thing to the Christian is Bible study.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15

Studying the Word of God is vital to our spiritual well being, not only for ourselves but so that we can teach others also, because this to, is a command we have given to us by Christ himself in Matthew 28:19-20

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

God tells us, that anyone who will come to him that is spiritually athirst he will give of the water of life freely, and this water is living water. (Revelation 21:67) Living water, just like the water Jesus spoke of to the woman at the well in John 4. Jesus offers us living water so we will never thirst, and John 6:35 tells us that he (Jesus) is also the bread of life and that if we will follow him we will never hunger.

Let’s look in the mirror of our minds eye and see our spirit. How healthy is it? If has been neglected and malnourished then there is no better day than today to begin nourishing it back to health. If your spirit is healthy, then keep on keeping on, and help others with theirs that is in need.  So let us drink of the water of life freely and eat of the bread of life and serve our Father in heaven, and a place of eternal rest awaits us where there is no hunger, there is no thirst, there is no pain, and there is no loss, and we will be in presence of our God.
